The predecessor of Wing Lung Bank was established by Mr. Wu Yee Sun (Mr. Y.S. Wu) in 1933. Mr. Y.S. Wu was joined by his brother Mr. Wu Jieh Yee (Mr. J.Y. Wu) in 1936. Together, the Wu brothers turned Wing Lung Bank into one of the major local banks of Hong Kong. Wing Lung Bank was listed in 1980 in Hong Kong.
In 2008, the Wu Family sold its controlling stake in Wing Lung Bank to China Merchants Bank for HKD19.3bn, and Wing Lung Bank became what is now known as CMB Wing Lung Bank.
The Wu family might have parted ways with Wing Lung Bank, yet banking and finance run deep in the family, as members of the Wu family remain industrious and have since ventured into various businesses in finance, asset management, insurance, investments, real estate development and education, etc.
In 2020, members of the Wu Family established their latest business venture in investment banking - Wings Securities, bringing back the banking DNA of the family into what it does best.
